Tokyo Conrad and Tea House

The Conrad Tokyo is a 5 Star hotel located in the Shimbashi business district, just next-door to the upscale Ginza neighborhood. Comprising the 28th to 37th floors of the high-rise allows serene views of the Tokyo Bay and the lovely Hamarikyu Gardens.

Hospitality

All of the Japanese people that we met in Tokyo (and throughout Japan) went out of there way to help us and to anticipate our needs.  It seemed they were always a step ahead of us, and this is all without expecting or wanting a tip.  At the Conrad, this hospitality was taken to the next level.

We felt like royalty the minute we stepped out of the taxi.  When we arrived, a staff member took our luggage out of the trunk and wheeled it up to the check-in desk on the 29th floor, showing us the way.  When we arrived on the 29th floor, we waited our turn for check-in and proceeded to the counter where they apologized to us for having to wait (even though it had only been maybe 3 minutes).

Great with kids

Then she handed her a water bottle in the shape of Hello Kitty.  It was a perfect touch.

Beautiful Decor

The design throughout the lobby, bar, restaurants and even hallways are dramatic and stunning.  The decor includes dark wood grain and soaring ceiling heights.  In the bar and restaurants, which are on the 29th floor, the views are impressive.  Through the floor-to-ceiling windows are views of either the Hamarikyu Gardens or the city skyline.

Room Layout and Design

We stayed in a “Twin Suite City View” room at the Conrad Tokyo, and it was spectacular.  The rooms were much larger than we expected from the pictures we originally viewed online.  The suite consists of a living room, bedroom with two twin beds (larger than US sized twin beds, maybe the size of our full/double), bathroom, walk-through closet.  This suite also included a half-bath near the entry door, which is unusual in a suite and much appreciated .  In the photos online I wasn’t sure if you could separate the bedroom from the living room.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are doors between the living room and the bedroom.

Conrad Tokyo Restaurants

The Conrad Tokyo has five restaurants, all of which are very expensive.  We dined at Cerise (the more “casual” restaurant) one evening during our stay.  The food was very good, but we felt the price was too high.  {Our suggestion is to head out to one of the umpteen possible restaurants around for a cheaper meal.}

We ate breakfast at the buffet where we sat near the large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bay and gardens.  Now, that’s a good way to start out the day.

Overall Impression of the Conrad Tokyo Hotel

If you have a chance to stay at this hotel, do it!  The location is convenient to the subway, the staff is the best around, and the hotel is beautiful.
